Rock Climbing with Acheron Outdoors

Rock Climbing with Acheron Outdoors

The team of Acheron Outdoors plans, organizes and implements Rock Climbing courses for beginners in the "Elataria" sector, as well as in the "Karteri" sector in the Prefecture of Thesprotia. These are two organized climbing sectors that include routes of various levels of difficulty, with pre-installed belays, so that participants can climb with easiness and safety. There we start with a short training in climbing techniques and we refer to security issues. We climb on selected routes of one rope (top rope) that do not present special technical difficulties and are suitable for beginners. The degree of difficulty of the routes ranges from 4c to 5c, while the maximum climbing height does not exceed 18 meters.

Hiking with Acheron Outdoors

Hiking with Acheron Outdoors

Acheron Outdoors invites you to walk the legendary path "Tzavelena's staircase – Plateau of Souli - Kougi" and get to know the heroic Souli, one of the most historic regions of Greece!

Our hiking starts from the village Glyki at the springs of the Acheron river, at the location "Tzavelena's staircase" (40 m altitude). At a distance of 300 meters from our meeting point, we pass through the tunnel of "Tzavelena's staircase" and after a few minutes’ walk we meet the observatory. Here we enjoy the panoramic view of the imposing Acheron river and the majestic rocky mountains of Souli. About 45 minutes into our hiking route we reach the modern bridge of Acheron, as well as the traditional arched bridge, known as the Dala bridge. There huge plane trees grow along the riverbed and the ruins of an old watermill are preserved. As the path ascends towards the plateau of Souli, we find low shrubby vegetation such as holly, oregano, thyme and asfaka, while the woody vegetation is sparse, consisting mainly of oaks. Only at one point towards the end of our ascent, 15 minutes before Samoniva, the path passes through a dense forest with plane trees, sycamores and arias. After 2 – 2.5 hours of walking, we meet the first village of Souli, Samoniva and a few meters further up the historic Kougi (600 m altitude), where we finish our ascent. The return back to the village of Glyki is carried out by the same route, with the only difference, being that at the end of our hiking, we go through the external path around the tunnel. The view from the top is breathtaking!

And don't forget! We hike "traditionally", by holding in one hand the traditional wooden shepherd's cane! A unique experience not to be missed!

River Trekking with Acheron Outdoors

River Trekking with Acheron Outdoors

Acheron Outdoors invites you to a unique river trekking at Acheron, the mythical passage to the underworld!

Starting from our meeting point, in the village of Glyki, we follow for 300 m the verdant path that runs parallel to the river Acheron and then we ascend an ancient cobblestone, which leads to the site “Tzavelena's Staircase”! Here we enjoy the breathtaking view towards the narrows of the Acheron, as well as the majestic rocky mountains of Souli. About 45 minutes into our route we reach the modern bridge of the Acheron and a little further down the traditional arched bridge of Dala, where the ruins of an old watermill are preserved. At this point, we enter the water and head back towards Glyki village by crossing the riverbed (river trekking). During the descent, we walk and swim among high white rocks, enjoy the untouched natural scenery of the canyon, and drink icy water that gushes roaring through the cracks in the rocks. About halfway we take a brake on one of the river beaches and enjoy a tasty and nutritious picnic! Reaching the end, we meet the "Hole of the Dragon" or otherwise "Cave of the Element", one of the largest and coldest springs of the river!
